The Friday Five for April 20th

by mark mclean

Wow. April 20th already. The temperatures are rising, the flowers are popping up and the real estate market just keeps buzzing along. So before going right into this week’s awesome Social Media and Tech finds, I have just one question to everyone reading this; Is it safe to put the summer tires on yet?

I have been talking about the importance of blogging now for the last two years. Not to sound like a broken record or anything but it really is a great way to build your business. If you pick up the latest REM there is a great story about Bosley Real Estate’s resident Bloggmeister David Fleming. 70% of his business comes from his blog. Hello? Is anyone listening? Here is a great post from @lizstrauss about creating emotional content. Get out the box of kleenex and click below.

And if you are blogging but you’re not getting any traffic to your site then you should probably read this post from @JeffBullas.

Ok, some of you who follow me on Twitter must think I spend my life sending out tweets. Well that’s just not true. I spend about an hour a week lining up all my tweets in advance and then use Hootsuite to send them out. Just so you know, it’s not exactly cheating and here’s why; I enter each tweet myself. I change-up the headings, and I try to be creative in my writing style. When I write a tweet, I only send int out 4 times, and then I retire it. Want to know more? Check out this post from @craighcollins

Here is a great quote from @Smedio “Social media is NOT a magic wand for online selling which always produces bestsellers. Make sure you have clear objectives and a well-defined timeframe to start with. Focus on the right audience and be prepared to have regular conversations with like-minded people”.   offers some great information that will help you get the most out of your Social media endeavours.

No Friday Five would be complete without at least one post from @JeffBullas and today we have TWO. If you are interested in learning more about Social Media, Jeff is a good person to follow. Someday, I hope to be influential on Twitter. Until then I will just bookmark this post.

Thanks everyone. Have an awesome Weekend.
